Quicksand | 'Short of The Week' DVD Sleeve

'An elderly gentleman attempts to retrieve forgotten memories while battling the progression and regression of the cycles of life.'
Short of the Week seeks to discover and promote the greatest and most innovative storytellers from around the world.
'Quicksand' was one of the many films that are featured on their website. Directed by Lance Oppenheim, 'Quicksand' is a
short documentary that depicts his aging father's fight with Alzheimer’s. Throughout the film, we get an insight into this colourful man's life, and we see everything he has accomplished during his lifetime.

I took inspiration from MRI scans that detect the signs of Alzheimer's, along with colour blind tests. The end result is a radial pattern of dots, each one representing the father's memories and past experiences. As the sleeve is opened, we see these dots beginning to slowly change to black. This is where I create the link to the loss of his memories that he once hold dear to himself, however, this isn’t a film detailing the ravages of a terrible disease. We can still see each individual dot; each individual experience. We can still see everything this man has done with his life.

This is a celebration of his life.
