Hot Air Balloon Festival UX/UI Case Study

Hot Air Balloon UX/UI Case Study

Intro
One of the most intricate research projects yet, this one consisted of taking an experience that we enjoyed and improving it from start to finish. I decided to take it one step further by selecting an event I have never experienced, the Albuquerque International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta. A complete in depth case study of the event is available here.

Objectives
The objective was to select an experience that had room for improvement and revise any element relating to the experience from steps as early as planning to follow up after the event has passed.

Research
The research elements were the most important aspect of this project. Since I have not personally experienced the Hot Air Balloon Fiesta myself, I had heavily relied on the experiences of others as well as my experiences in similar festivals and other world known hot air balloon festivals. Each touchpoint uses a different research method to best turn around the hard deliverables illustrated in the graph below. The research methods include: proto personas, heuristic mark-up, competitive assessment, SWOT analysis, and moodboards.
Assets
Each deliverable is highlighted in the 5 touchpoints illustrated above with a brief description of each, along with research, preliminary sketches, rough drafts, and final deliverables.

The touchpoints begin with awareness, planning, waiting, experience (UX), and follow-up. Each experience has a deliverable I thought most appropriate for that touchpoint.
Conclusion
I think this journey was a success. The most difficult part of this journey was not having experienced the fiesta myself. It’s difficult to know for sure that all the feedback I received from other who have attended was accurate. However, I think that based on the research I gathered, and comparisons with similar events that I did attend, the revised user experience of the Elevate Fiesta would be very successful in implementation. I don’t think I would change the deliverables for any one section. I think that if the budget for this event was higher than the one currently in place, a lot of the pain points would have been resolved.

In revision, I would want to add a few more merchandise items that would be made available for purchase at a later date, as well as other directional signs and wayfinding markers. In conclusion, I enjoyed this project and am happy with the event I selected for my user experience. If you enjoyed my work here, feel free to contact me at oksanakambur@gmail.com.
