PHOTO SERIES featuring THE wild mountain areas OF THE CAUCASUS
We spent the summer of 2021 in Georgia and explored a great variety of terrain from grassy meadows to rocky ridges.
We did multiple day hikes to remote villages and met shepherds with hundreds of sheep and cows.
Unlike in mountainous regions in Europe hiking is not a mainstream recreational activity among the locals. Not in every mountain-area exist officially marked trails and those that do might merely be cow trails with a tendency to vanish under constant exposure to the elements. But the views are spectacular.
From its green valleys spread with vineyards to the old churches and watchtowers perched in fantastic mountain scenery, Georgia (Sakartvelo) never disappoints.
