Roorkee, the city in north India is located in Uttrakhand'sHaridwar district. The city is located on the banks of the Ganges canal. Before the creation of Uttrakhand, Roorkee was a part if the state of Uttar Pradesh. Haridwaar and Manglaur are the most important places among them. It is also known as the RoorkeeCantonment, one of the country's oldest and the headquarters of Bengal Engineer Group. IIT Rurkee is amongst the most famous institutions and having a campus of 25 acres.College of Engineering is yet another famous place. Roorkee is famous for its educational institutions. It also serves as a business hub. The development of Roorkee began with the establishment of the Roorkee Engineering College which later upgraded as the University of Roorkee and in 2001 it was made one of the IITs, IIT Roorkee.
