Project Title: Dulce et Decorum est

Source Material: "Dulce et Decorum est" by Wilfred Owen

Approach: "Dulce et Decorum est" is a WWI poem describing the horrors of war with the introduction of chemical weapons, and criticizing war propaganda. I decided to use a typewriter font, Typeka, a limited color scheme, and a discolored paper background to give the piece a worn time period feel. The color scheme is the off-white paper color, shades of black and grey, and blood red. All borrowed images were taken from Wiki Commons, and the cover illustrations were hand drawn by myself.

The cover illustrations may be interpreted in one of two ways. While the front cover shows a soldier in his gas mask, the back cover reveals a skull beneath. The skull reveal may be interpreted as a fallen soldier who didn't fit his gas mask on in time, or Death himself hiding among the soldiers waiting to collect his next soul.
