Hoja de Palma
REBRANDING

CONCEPT.   If we talk about palm trees, maybe one of the first things we think about is the diversity of their shapes. All of those shapes share the same root (Arecaceae), but a phylogeny that seems imprecise.

Colombia has 264 species, it's considered the 3rd country with the greatest palm diversity in the world. One of those species is the national tree and today's protagonist: the Quindío Wax PalmAlthough there are a large number of relatives, the wax palm stands out for being unique, it only exists in Colombia and its imposing height classifies it as the tallest.

Hoja de Palma is a tribute to Colombian plurality, but above all, it's the vision of the people of the Tropics, it's the cultural impact of the region with the highest solar activity, it's the hunger (ambition) of a land represented through this popular green friend.
PROCESS.   Chromatic settings and compositions were inspired by Hiroshi Nagai and his endless summer environments. As for type, it's always interesting to explore new ways of customize characters, so this case wasn't the exception. I started with a 1:1 grid for standards, after having something decent I altered the grid to give personality: lengthen the top of each character, round specific areas, etc.
