EDITORIAL DESIGN
We were required to design a typographic editorial that reflects strong typographic skills. For this magazine,
the chosen theme centres around flavours of design. With specific reference to this issue, the use of proudly
South African sweets are combined with design features.
Young South African designers are highly creative and talented. Unfortunately, there are no accessible magazine publications for these creatives to boost their skills as well as guide them meaningfully through trends in the industry. cThe lack of inspirational authority leads to designers feeling isolated leaving them with no support from the industry to learn from them and showcase their talent. This creates insecurity and confusion under young creatives which is problematic in the long term for the industry as a whole.
The Jawbreaker Edition centres around adding sugar to your design career which focusses on sweets compared to one’s career that shares similar characteristics. The colours of a jawbreaker metaphorically refers
to colouring your career.
