Freedom with us. SBB 50th anniversary.
for Muzeum Chorzów, Poland
SBB (first known as Silesian Blues Band, later as Szukaj, Burz, Buduj – Polish for "Search, Break up, Build") is a Polish progressive rock band formed in 1971 in Siemianowice, Upper Silesia. It consisted of multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Józef Skrzek, aguitar player Apostolis Anthimos, the drummer Jerzy Piotrowski and sound engineer Grzegorz Maniecki. It was one of the most popular super-groups in Poland
and Europe in the 1970s.
Today, SBB is an again an important existing band. Their live CD "Good bye!" (released in 2000) was followed by their latest 2001 studio CD entitled "The Golden Harp". Both CD's were recorded with new drummer Paul Wertico from Chicago. The trio of Antymos, Wertico and Skrzek have been actively touring around Europe in Germany, The Czech Republic, Poland and Hungary, playing to enthusiastic audiences and sold out shows. SBB was recently inducted into the Polish Rock 'N' Roll Hall of Fame and voted the
#1 Polish rock band of all time!
To celebrate such a long and unique career of the team, the Museum in Chorzów has decided to prepare an exhibition in their honor. The visual layer of the exhibition was to show the uniqueness and magic of the music created by the members of the group. The elements of the arrangement referred to the graphic motifs that appeared on the most famous albums of the group.
A very important part of the experience was the ability to listen to the tracks - it was made possible in a very original way. Selected songs were played through special auditions, which hung in the form of colored spheres / planets from the ceiling of the gallery. It was also about showing the atmosphere of the 1970s and 1980s in a clear, graphic way - it was possible, for example, by using characteristic and expressive typefaces
