Design Narrative: The concept for this project was to design and produce a specimen book for one of Adrian Frutiger's typefaces. The typeface displayed in this book is Frutiger's Univers typeface with regular, compressed, condensed, italic, and extra black styles. The theme of the book is outer space and astrology to compliment the name of the typeface, Univers. The creator titled the book Cosmos to further pay homage to the typeface name and tie in the galactic theme. The design is minimal with limited colors, and the larger geometric shapes contrast with the smaller star shapes throughout the book. Zodiac sign illustrations are included to compliment the text utilized in the book, which explains astrological concepts, such as planetary placements and the zodiac signs themselves. Chapter 1 of Cosmos is about Adrian Frutiger and his successes in the printing and graphic design industries. Chapter 2 displays each style of the Univers typeface, complete with upper and lowercase characters, scale, leading, and alignment. Chapter 3 examines the anatomy of the Univers typeface and highlights key aspects about the composition of the characters.
