CARBON – Wifi Router Design Concept

2020
Carbon is a Wi-Fi router consisting of a pentagonal casing and a circular wall mount. The router can either be placed horizontally on a flat surface or mounted vertically on a wall using the included bracket.
The focus of this project was to design a product that can be injection moulded. Therefore the router is created from 2 halves with an annular snap on the inside edge and a regular snap on the outside edge.
Screw bosses, 5 screws are used to secure the motherboard in place.
Vent holes
The product is assembled upside down, as it makes the process easier. By using annular snaps and screw bosses, a high-quality feel and sturdiness are achieved. The connection between the router and the mount is made possible with dot-like extrusions which ensure that the router can be securely placed on the wall.
The dots on the sides make enough contact with the inside surface of the router to hold it in place snugly. One screw mounts the hanging element to the wall.
This parting line makes it possible to produce the part in one piece while also making the traction dots integrated into it.
