My First Project in ZBrush

First Zbrush Sculpt

I recently accuired ZBrush and decided to mess around with the software for a bit. This project was mainly to get acquainted with the program. I didn't have any reference or concept art to go off, since i thought that it would maybe get in the way of me getting to know ZBrush.

I started of with a DynaMesh sphere. Using the ClayBuildup brush, I build up and removed volume and made the eyes, the mouth, his teeth and the stone-like lumps on his head / back. I also found myself using the DamStandard brush.

The UI and movement will need some getting used to, but the sculpting feels really natural. Often when i sculpt in Blender, i'll encounter some problems after a while, usually relating to the topology. That, however, was not the case in ZBrush.

The texture painting was suprisingly the most troublesome part of the process. Because it was a highpoly model and because i didn't intent to retopoligize the model, i decided to let blender add UVs. This unwrap was not without problem because a couple of places overlapped, leading to sections being colored the wrong color. But since the lighting and shadows mostly hide the bad parts, i didn't think it was necessary to fix it.
Overall, I am really happy with how this project turned out, especially for my first time working with ZBrush. I now have a far better idea of the things which I have to work on in the future (mainly texture painting, defining the shapes more and adding details to convey the material).
