DYB124 Design Manifesto

A Manifesto on the future of design - Georgia Neil-Manuel (n11036753)
October 2021

Prologue
I am only at the beginning of my design journey; I would say I haven’t even had enough experience in the real world to define what future design should be like. But in my short life as a designer, I can confidently say, I do have aspirations for the future.

This manifesto focuses on the designer, rather than the designs themselves: the designers being the ‘Starting Point’ towards a future of better design. Although this manifesto is rooted in my views on design, the future, design ethics and design consequences, none of what I am saying is truly original. In fact, you can probably find endless manifestos with roughly the same goals. That’s the beauty of design:“Everything is a remix” - Kirby Ferguson

With that said, my goal for this manifesto is to spark further questioning and reflection. This is not a do as I say, and design will be better, it is merely ‘A starting point… at least’.

We = Myself as a designer and others as designers
This manifesto was written from the perspective of a Visual Communication Designer
