The "Whisky Business" Poster Collection
A Graphic Design Project Showcasing 7 Creative Strategies
By Kat Livingston
This graphic design project was created as an assignment for my graphic design class at BYU-Idaho. This project was meant to help us as young creatives come up with ideas using 7 creative strategies: Combinations, Juxtaposition, Isolation, Metaphor/Simile, Change of Context/Environment, Physical/Shape Similarity, and Material Change/Swap/Focus.
We were asked to choose a regular object that has a specific purpose and is recognizable. I chose an ordinary whisk.
Combination
This creative strategy is combining two objects or ideas into one new image/design.
"The Whip to the Cream"
Juxtaposition
This creative strategy is about two contrasting things being put together in one design.
"Cooking Up a Storm"
Isolation
This strategy creates focus on a specific part of a design and shows the contrast of it from the other parts of the design.
"Tools of Creation"
Isolation
This strategy creates focus on a specific part of a design and shows the contrast of it from the other parts of the design.
"Trapped in Your Work"
Change of Context/Environment
This strategy is about placing an object in an uncommon environment or using the object in an uncommon way.
"Whisk it All"
Physical Shape/Similarity
This creative strategy highlights the shape of an object to another object that may not have been noticed before.
"Bright Ideas"
Material Change/Environment
This creative strategy replaces a material of an object with another to show contrast.
"Whiskey Business"
In conclusion, I had a lot of fun being creative, and I will never look at a whisk the same again!
