Rough Trade - Evolution of Indie music (magazine)

WHY DID I CHOSE INDIE MUSIC AS MY SUBJECT?
I decided to choose the milestones of indie music as my subject as it is something I have always been very passionate about. Thanks to my dad I grew up listening to U2, The Cure and other great bands. I have always been interested in where indie music began and I thought if I chose it as my subject I would really enjoy this project as its something I care about. I took time to pick out what milestones I would focus on. I wanted to dedicate a few pages to 'The birth of indie music' to begin the magazine. For me, the next milestone has to be the smiths, arguably the band who made indie music a thing. After that I want to look at the Madchester scene and the influence that it had on indie music at the time. The last milestone I want to cover is Britpop as that's when indie and alternative music merged and produced bands like oasis.
WHY DID I CHOOSE THESE FONTS?
I chose 'Punk Kid' as the title font of my magazine as I feel it best represents the indie culture. it is rough and ready which is a characteristic of indie, DIY music. the font looks as if it is spray painted using a stencil and to me theres nothing that screams indie more than that.

I used the font 'No Color' as headings in some of my pages as I think its quite quirky. the font looks like its eroded but also looks like handwriting.

I chose the font 'Neue Haas Grotesk Text Pro' for all the body text as I think its easy to read and that is important for the body text. The font is very minimal as well so it takes a step back and allows the other pieces of text to pop.
MAGAZINE PLAN
I want my magazine to be very colourful representing the 80's neon colours. indie culture is very DIY, I like the idea of my magazine looking a bit like a scrap book with tape to stick the images down. I want bold titles and pull quotes but very minimalist body text.
