#datafication

This project was developed during the DensityDesign final synthesis studio attended the last year of the M.Sc. Degree in Communication Design at Politecnico di Milano. The work's aim was to represent a controversial phenomenon from different perspectives using various visualization techniques. Our research deals with the increasing amount of data generated by people every day and the related effects on our society.

We collected and visualized structured data from official sources during the first phase of the process. One of the outputs was this printed visualization showing the current scenery of online data from its creation to the public perception of the phenomenon. It outlines the three main actors involved in this flow: people, companies, and governments. The main focus of the visualization is the willingness to trade personal data in exchange for services.

The same official data are represented and shown on the following webside. Here we can find a general description of the topic and an in-depth analysis of the concept of data privacy and data trading. An open final question that allowed us to continue our research. The question is: will people, companies, and governments be able to work together to build a new society model based on data exchange?

If the question is will people, companies, and governments be able to work together to build a new society model based on data exchange? a possible answer would be Social Credit System.
In this second phase, we mapped this controversial issue by collecting and analyzing online data using digital methods. The result is a website presenting the research path we followed, the produced visualizations, the built datasets, and the used protocols.

Welcome to Cameraville!
The third step of the process is related to obtaining public engagement by presenting the research differently. "Welcome to Cameraville!" starts with a small game that can make people understand the phenomenon based on our perspective. After describing the topic's analysis, we also decided to ask people to give us their opinion to collect new data.
