Packaging for the emotion of 'Hurt'.

For our second project we had to randomly pull out an emotion, and then make a package for a product that we choose that relates to our emotion. My word was 'Hurt'. If you're the type who gets bored by long texts and are only interested by the final design you can skip to the images. You don't really need to know the context that much.

First we had to find the object that we would make a package for.
I've searched the internet and most of the time I would see band-aids being related to the word hurt (as a product that is).

That seemed a bit too over-used to me so I pondered on the meaning of the word hurt.
Indeed, there are 2 meanings in this context:
- Physicaly hurt, and
- Emotionally hurt.

Now, they both were complete opposites when they were applied to packaging.

Although we were not required to create the product (we just had to put any bland one in the packages) we still had to make our packages according to it (duh!).

You could easily choose any object for the physical one, but making the package would be difficult.
In accordance to that, making the package for the emotional one would be easy, and the item would be hard.

Since I had to choose the item first I went with physically hurt. The item I choosed was the concealer (the make-up used by women).

The idea of insulting the buyers through the package by calling them fat or something was really tempting. It is a novelty item so it is not expected to attract customers in that way. I still felt uncomfortable by this so I decided to go with the option of physically hurt.

Of course, I can't evoke the same concept to this as the other one. If I tried, I could of made a tissue paper box which cuts peoples hand when they try to get a tissue. Sadistic right? Yes, you're right, I should get help.

Yeah, a concealer is my item. I am targeting women who get beat up in this project. Now don't get me wrong. I do not condone violence on women, but when you are a student 'Ya just gotta do what ya gotta do". Enough with me rambling and rambling without showing any pictures right?

This is the 3D look of the final version. I put this first because it is easier to explain it like this. I will keep it short so as not to ennui you. Even though I made a few untenable mistakes in making this model just stay with me.
There is not much to talk about the logo, it has a face shape on it due to many cosmetics brands having it, and the colour is purely to attract the females. The logo is important but it's not the main topic so there is not much behind it, mostly aesthetics. The purple of course is to relate with the purple eye and giving a harmony to the package. It seems empty now, but the right eye socket is transparent in its real life application and the concealer is behind it to reveal the colour of it to the buyer. At first I made it differently and you could keep the box after getting the concealer out but then thought..."Why show everyone that you were beaten up". I've decided to make it a disposable package. The height of it is just perfect to insert a medium sized concealer in and the size is a bit bigger than a big battery package.
This is a close up to what's in the back. I've noticed all these products in real have their ingredients listed. I admit, I've gotten a bit over-zealous with the amount of the ingredients when writing them but most of it was done to make the list longer. I've generally put what most similar products have in the back (I've even left out a lot). I did follow a rule while placing them though, I tried to align the edges to another element so that they have a balance with each other (the symbols showing the languages don't count).
Here is the dieline of it. There are few cuttting places that can't be seen here, if you are interested please contact me and I can tell you. The blank parts are going to be in so I didn't deem it necesarry to put elements on them. The side flaps of the righten one are al purple to blue but the end part of them (as it can be seen from the pointy side) will be in the interior part  too. It was easier to put my gradient on there like that.
This was the presentation board we had to bring to our class jury. 3d model or photography, dielines and sketches. As you can see in the sketches, my main part was more detailed but my teacher thought it was too crowded and un-needed. I also neglected to tell you that that the way to get the concealer out (also had cottons in the other eye socket in my earlier version) the eyes were tearable which would reveal the item in the process. I personally liked the lighter blue version of my package better, but after getting the opinion of many females (ok ok ok, my mother and my sister...happy now?) the purple was better suited for it (it also connected the package with the purple eye as I mentioned before). There were many other sketches but I could only fit this many here, and from all this I managed to finish this project too. Before saying adieu, I want to share one last thing. If you've seen my previous project, you'd know that we've done a guideline for that one. The same thing applied for this project aswell. This time I want to share a couple of examples of how the pages look to my fellow behancians.

Here is one with images on it:
I know I know, the page numbers are way too big. That's one of the things I've learned from this project.
I tried to make the pages look similar to my package instead of creating a new format to them. I used the alignment technique here again.

This project was really challenging as I am not as good as I want to become when it comes to handiwork. We were required to build a prototype to it and I messed it up everytime I tried to do it. I guess this is what students have to go through to learn something. Neverthless, it was rewarding and even if it is not perfect I thank my teacher for guiding me, the class assistant for lending us a hand, and my mom for being the target of my contant nagging.

See ya!
