Wanderlust [National Calendar Awards - Winner]

WINNER - HIGHLY COMMENDED AT CALENDAR AWARDS 2014
Whether you’re an everyday continent hopper or blue sky adventurer ‘Wanderlust’ provides you with 12 months of facts, tips and quirky illustrations to navigate you around the worlds most popular cities, or just wish you were there.

With a fold out design, my calendar is aimed at travellers of all ages to help them keep track of time whilst on their journeys. The folding nature of the piece is created to make the entire calendar more portable, allowing it to be placed inside a suitcase or bag. Once unfolded the calendar can be placed across a table or stuck up on a wall, not only to display the months but also double as a world map on the reverse. Two of these folded planels have been reinforced by 300gsm card which become the front and back of the calendar when folded up. Making the entire thing more sturdy.

Each month includes a fact or tip about a specific city with a visual reinforcement of
that information, combined with the month in English and then in the dialect of that city, whether it be a different language or accent. I have chosen to render all my illustrations as vectors with a minimalist design to preventing overcrowding on the display and maximum delivery of the message. I also think these illustrations give the calendar a type of personality, almost telling the user to be lighthearted about whatever their journey throws at them. In addition to this, each month has a certain date circled relating to the information along with a dot to the city on the world map.

Wanderlust is not just for the idle adventurer, it also doubles as a calendar to be given to those of us that just wish they were travlling around the world, giving inspiration to their dreams.

Just found out this project has won at the National Calendar Awards with a Highly Commended Certificate!
