PODCAST ILLUSTRATION - FLIP THE SCRIPT
Flip the Script is a podcast by Invisibilia that touches on non-complimentary behaviour and the idea of treating someone with kindness when they are aggressive or angry. In the podcast, Jamaal's story stood out to me. Individuals showed prejudice and islamophobia towards him and as a result he decided he would play into their image of a villain and join a supremacist group. However, when approached by local police in a kind, open manner - he was open to help and stopping the radicals.
This illustration captures how Jamaal became aggressive because of the harsh prejudice directed towards him (arrows and knives) and how despite his aggression, the police approached him with kindness (hand reaching out to pull him out of his situation, despite the chance of getting bitten.)
