‘Viragaya’ (1987) 

Directed by Tissa Abeysekera is adapted from Martin Wickremasinghe's novel by the same name.

This psychological drama attempts to dwell into the mind of Aravinda (Sanath Gunatilake), whose Buddhist empathy and detachment is contrasted with his worldly friends and relatives. The English translation of the title, "The Way of the Lotus" implies Aravinda as a Lotus--rising above dirt and mud to blossom. 

The film also stars Sabeetha Perera, Joe Abeywickrama, Daya Alwis, Sriyani Amarasena & Douglas Ranasinghe
