Hello! My name is Mel and in this post I will show you have I draw this Family Cartoon in Simpsons Style. The client sent me a reference photo just like the final cartoon. I opt not to put the reference photo, because the client may not want to show it on the internet.

First I draw the rough sketch. In this stage, I block in the general shapes of the cartoon with the background. I can be very rough as I want.

Next, is the refined sketch. I try to be as detailed as possible so that when I ink, it will be easier.

Then I move in to inking. I ink the characters and background separately. I will explain later.

Here’s the background. I drew it separately as I may be able to re-use it in the future.
