For our third project of the semester, we were asked to design a 16x20 inch poster advertising a typeface of our choice. Our target audience was to be graphic designers. I chose the typeface Avenir Next, designed by Adrian Frutiger and Akira Kobayashi. My poster showcases five different weights of Avenir next as well as a brief history and examples of various ways it can be used. I chose red and white as part of my color palette as a nod to the Swiss and Japanese flags that represent the countries that the two designers came from. Grey was my choice for the various weights, with black for the price information, weight labels and body copy. During the course of this project I learned how to better utilize grids and hierarchy along with gaining a greater appreciation for all the work that goes into typeface design. I appreciate the versatility and functionality of Avenir Next as well as its style.
