Elite Chefs, Perfect Bites

Dim Sum 8 was a cooperation between Taiwan and Shanghai franchise that fell into the image of traditional Chinese restaurant. After being taken over by a new team, who wanted to highlight Taiwanese culture and features, Dim Sum 8 needed to be rebranded.

The new team recruited chefs from starred hotels to create more delicate flavours and presentation for dim sum. We thus apply the professional skills into brand image.

Logo Design

For a modern restaurant, we wanted to get rid of the stereotype of eating at dim sum store - greasy and noisy. We needed a “fresh” look for Dim Sum 8.

The logo was a re-designed bold typefaces. The designer applied the image of chefs’ kneading the dough to add more fun. It did not only convey the message that dim sum is for everyone but also echo to the features of dim sum - freshly made.

Business Card Design

We incorporated the image of hand-made to the business card. The oval-rhombus creamy-white square was like an extended flour, giving an interesting idea to the customers.

Menu Design

Two kinds of menu were made for different locations and TAs.

One was the hardcover. It would be used mainly for restaurants in department stores for family dining. Dishes were categorized, and in each chapters there were more pictures to portrait the tastes of dishes.

The other was for street stores where people spend less time and eat more quickly. So the menu took the idea of newspaper, which is traditionally a must during morning dim sum time traditionally, and was re-designed with item tick boxes for ordering and banner ads for marketing. As a result it can be used in two ways as in-store menu and outdoor flyer.

Application Design

We would like extend the brand experience to take-away boxes and bags, too. Craft paper is used to echo with brand color and to bring warm touch. Meanwhile, we applied black brand logo and white brand patterns to make a modern simple image of the brand.

Visual Extension

To present a new dim sum restaurant, the brand visual was applied into the interior space. The furnitures were mainly made of wood and rattan. We also transform brand logo’s “eight” into circles which was applied on sign boards, VIP room and indications. The brand color blue and yellow could also be seen around.
