WORLD OCEAN DAY

The concept behind my art work:
Everything in this world we use comes from the ocean in some way. The air we breathe, the water we drink, even the products we use day to day, would not be possible without the ocean. That's why the issue of ocean pollution is so important and needs to be addressed as soon as possible. We depend on the ocean for so much in our life, without it we would surely become extinct.

What inspired me for the theme of ocean pollution is the recent incident that happened with the MV X-press Pearl, in Sri Lanka. I feel anxious about the marine environment and its life on it. The harm it occurred is unmeasurable.

Talking about my art it is a combination of a lot of thoughts and emotions I was going through as a marine lover. In the middle, there is an hourglass that represents “We are running out of time”. The top part of the hourglass is a beautiful lush scenery of the beach while the bottom of the hourglass shows how human activity threatens marine diversity and how scary it can be in the future. The black patch in the middle represents the decay of marine life. The figure on top of the hourglass represents mother nature and she is worried about the situation and fighting to save her and the life of nature. The fire represents all human activities and every bad thing that happens to nature. It tried to destroy and take life back and turn every living thing into pieces of ash, Remembering each one of us is responsible for that. But as well mannered human beings with a great mind and a great sense of humor we can change. Small changes that we can make to our lives can greatly help our environment and lessen the pollution on earth. Let’s start treating them with respect and care. “It’s time for a change”
