Redesign of the opening titles (Communications & Graphic Design Master's Degree, ELISAVA)
Brief
The purpose of this project was to redesign the opening credits of a movie. The movie chosen for my project was "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind". We studied and investigated all about the movie and the references of the director and the creatives that participated in the movie to discover what was the suitable way to redesign.
Michel GondryHe tells stories about people and their lives while questioning our definitions of reality. His characters are honest and human and his worlds playfully reflect the interaction between the worlds we live in: nature, society, and the mind.
We studied all the resources he uses in his movies to create the atmosphere and the scenery for the stories.
Story Board
We decided to make illustrations, based on the main character in the movie, Joel. He carries a notebook full of paintings and drawings during the whole story, and he uses it to keep his memories on paper.
Every frame that we designed in the storyboard belongs to the movie and are objects that can relate directly to the couple and their experiences.
We discovered a pattern with this objects that tell the story in a different way, but they are really important for storyline.
We started with the tape and we linked the titles to the illustrations, one by one. And we ended the titles with the first appearance of Jim Carrey in his bed. We illustrated this first frame of his face. Then, the drawing fades away letting the movie begin.
