THE SCORCHING SEA
By: Tessa Meusen
For this assignment, I had to make a cube world ( in my case Blender, however you were aloud to use other programs ). A program I am not all that great in. We received three words witch we had to work around.
Mine were:
Shipwreck - Desert - Dark
First we had to make a reference, mood and style board. I did this on Pinterest. It didn't take me long to make a references and mood board. But the style board was a bit harder. First I wanted to make something like Voxel art. I made a board and tried to figure something out in blender not very long after, I realised that Blender was not a great combo with this style. So I asked the teachers for help. One gave the suggestion to work in a other program, and I did give it a try. But after consulting with an other teacher I decided to change the style.
If you want a better look at the boards you can use this link:

The one under this is my former Style board.
Then I proceeded to make sketches. I wrote things down mostly in Dutch as I hadn't started on my story yet. Also not really the best drawings, however I knew what I wanted with it, and I knew what it was supposed to be. And it is a bit sloppy. I apologise for any inconvenience it may cause. (Also I have dyslexia so there might be a few spelling mistakes)
Then I had to make a story. A story that would help me with making the cube world. under this you can read it.
The scorching sea, a wasteland. Heats unimaginable. Yet, the sun never shines brightly. At night, it barely gets any colder. Stories tell that a sea used to thrive here. Trading groups from all over the world came. But one-day disaster struck. For unknown reasons the water started to get less, the heat went up. It started with slight changes. However overnight things changed, for the worst. The water was gone, and the heat was high. Sailors had no idea what had happened and where they were. They thought that they might have landed in another world. Sadly, that wasn’t the case. Lost in the desert they tried to find a way back home, to their family and friends. Sadly, they died before they had gotten far. Without the proper resources, they either died of starvation, heat stroke, dehydration or wild animals that had moved into the desert in a matter of a few days.
After a good amount of time the people had called down and they collectively decided that this place was off grounds for anyone. Not long after that some of the governments decided that the desert would also be a good place for criminals and others that they deemed unworthy of living in society. To make it less unfair they decided that if people could survive for a certain amount of time, changed depending on the crime or action, they could be allowed to get back into society. However, it was already hard to survive for a month just imagine six years. Or even more. All you get with you are clothing a slight amount of water and food, a single med kid. The odds were quite unfair. Since then, 74 years have passed.
Now you might be wondering why I am telling you this. I am one of the people that had been sent into this desert. Well, I would be imagining you thinking. What horrible crime did you commit? Manslaughter? Mass murder? Rape? Human trafficking? No, none of the above. All I did was try to stand up to the guards, who were misusing their authority. I’ve met but few in this hell. All of them didn’t have long. I made some friends and some enemies. We didn’t ask each other what we did to get here. All we did was survive. I made my home in an old shipwreck. It's still odd to see, a shipwreck in the middle of a desert.
I managed to survive for six years, as of yesterday. And in other words that means I can go back to where I came from. I can only imagine the stir ill make when I get back. But couldn’t care less all I want is to go home. To my friends and family.

(I had written a full part of at least 300 words and then, I try to save. Like one is supposed to do with these type of things. I proceed to have to log in again, for some reason, and now its gone. How fun... It's not like I have a deadline or something, haha.)
Anyway, then I had to start building for real. At the very least that's what I attempted. My attempts weren't as successful as I wished they were.
I started to get quite bad migraines, and to add to that I also ended up in a "dip"? witch only made everything worse. (I don't really know what to call it.)
Then, I unwisely continued working. Well I attempted to work. I was looking at the screen and I couldn't get myself to do anything. I knew what I wanted. I knew, but I couldn't get myself to do it. To concentrate was also quite hard as the headaches were increasing each day. Then after a while I realised that I had only one more for this assignment. I was behind. I reached out to one of the teachers and we came to the conclusion that I should just try to make what I can, and hand in what I have around the deadline. So, that I did.

Under this you can find the screenshots and videos I made while working on this assignment. You can see that blender at some times did not wanted to work with me. (I am pretty sure that my laptop crashed at least 3 times while working on this)
Under here you can see some renders of the work in blender.
