Impression - Performing Visual Arts Piece - 2021

Impression
An idea, feeling or opinion of something or someone, especially one formed without conscious thought.
As an alternative to a dissertation my university course asks for us to create a research project from beginning to end as part of a collaborative group or individually. This is my individual response.

This performing visual arts piece includes inspiration from art, nature and photography. Within this performance the video and dancer are working together to create their own story. To achieve this I took away all standard lighting, incorporating the video content as the only light source. Also using skeleton tracking and trigger areas across the floor which cause changes to video content and projection throughout the performance.

In a recorded piece, including interactivity can sometimes be unnecessary. However I didn’t want the final piece to be perfectly timed to the music or movement, I wanted to achieve an uncontrolled organic feel. If the choreography was changed ever so slightly the video would mimic the change.

All content was drawn and designed by myself, final designs created in Notch. Interactivity and tracking controlled by Stage Precision and final show run by Disguise.
The performance includes my beautiful friend Beth Lannigan who is an amazing acrobat/dancer/choreographer. Who came up with three beautiful routines in response to the content and my ramblings.
