SICKOS
Student Film Title Cards

In April, I was asked to create opening and closing title cards for a short film that was written, acted and directed by students at York University. The storyline is dramatic but also darkly comedic so that was taken into consideration when approaching the creative direction of the project.
I examined the use of colour throughout the film and used the de-saturated red as fill for the name cards. After talking with the filmmakers, we agreed that we wanted something distorted and somewhat abstract to fit the mood of the film, but the most important part was maintaining legibility - ensuring that the audience can read the credits and acknowledge the people who worked hard on creating this work. I felt that the best way to achieve this was to use physical typography to create natural grunge and subtle imperfections within the lettering.
By printing, ripping, scanning and editing the names, we were finally left with something that we felt fairly represented the film itself, but also the people behind it.
