Structured Leather
Three pice set of leather accessories

This project was done for Sewing Technologies Accessory Design class. The course taught all the methods of working with leather, one that came of interest to me is called trapunto. Trapunto is a technique where you take a shape and cover it in a material to give a raised effect. I wanted to use this technique three dimensionally.

The three pieces are a case for a tablet, a penholder, and a key fob. The design process involved research of inspiration and materials, sketching, patterning, sampling, then construction. All three pieces used a black pigskin, grey wool, and chip-board (internal).

The case uses the three-dimensional trapunto as space for the cord of the tablet to go in to. There is a zipper on the opposite side lined with grey wool. The wool reappears to line the geometrical trapunto. This piece is the main one of the tree and starts off the design elements that follow into the next two.

The penholder has pouches for the pens then, using magnets, folds up into the same triangle seen on the other two accessories. The wool makes an appearance as trim again to keep a cohesive design language between the three accessories.

The key fob is a scaled down version of the case. Fits nicely into ones hand and is a nice addition to anyone’s keys. The decision to have the wool be more prominent, was to differentiate from the case be equally as strong
in comparison.
