This is a school project completed as part of the Cool Capital initiative in Pretoria in conjunction with the 2014 Cape Town World Design Capital. The brief was to create an urban intervention and document the concept by means of an animation or video.
The proposed intervention is to create a Suburban Tourist’s Guide to Pretoria as a play on the idea that many people living in Pretoria are tourists in their own city. The guide will be printed and dropped in post boxes around Pretoria East, which houses the biggest culprits in being afraid of entering Pretoria Central. The theme of the intervention is Enter the Great Beyond. The aim of the intervention is to encourage people to explore the spaces of Pretoria Central with the incentive of pop-up stalls (such as coffee stands, reading spaces and poetry sessions) during the day and street parties in the old arcades at night.
