I approached the design of Volta with a simplicity that let each piece
of writing have its own voice. I wanted the cover design to relate to the writing and be
open to interpretation, like the title itself. I believe an image that was related to the human
body was important, while Volta can mean to roll, twist, turn and orbit it’s the body,
especially our hands that can demonstrate all of these movements, impossible without
the flow of blood our twisting veins provide, blood, a connection each piece
of writing loosely shares. The hands loose gestures sit on creased paper,
as each of the authors characters and musings within the anthology remind
me of our vulnerability and the imperfections of being human.
