Barni, also known as pingani, jaadi, or peengan jaadi in south India, are porcelain-made artefacts. These two-toned container, mainly in white and brown, were the pride of the kitchen a few decades ago. They range in size from large jaadis for storing pickles for the entire year for large combined families to small ones for storing ghee and curds for daily consumption. These wonderful jaadis come in a variety of shapes but are mostly double coloured brown and white. The most common shape is kola jaadi, which is tall and cylindrical. They are available in the form of a yellow pumpkin and are known as gummadikaya jaadi or Parangi jaadi.
