The Withering Tree

"The sky is gray....
I can see clouds with a shade of black.
The atmosphere is quiet and still.
The breeze is cold; really, really cold.

Why does this day feel so strange?
Why isn't there anyone around?
I wonder why it feels like I'm alone.
How did I get here? I really don’t know.

I look around to see if I can find the reason why, and all I see is this tree.
It is the color of the sky, and it's slowly withering away.
It has been neglected. No one cares for it, they left it there to be alone.

Now I remember! I am here because this tree reminds me of me.
I can feel its pain, its suffering, its missery.
Oh, tree, we are the same, and like you,
I can feel I'm also slowly withering away."

Behind the Scenes: The Withering Tree
This is a very personal project. There is a lot of me in it. I worked a little bit of miniature photography with compositing, and digital painting. Wanted to represent the feelings of neglection and loneliness. The idea came quickly, though I looked for a text that said exactly what I desired the image to mean. Spent several days searching for it until I finally came across with Bianca Hodge's poem "Withering Away," which struck me immediately. Took the parts I loved the most and reorganized and edited them to finally get the words I needed. The overal look is based on a world I see in my dreams-I have lucid dreams-, and that was first used to give ambience to parts of a novel I wrote and published some years ago (here in Guatemala), that is named "Para Isabel", "For Isabel" in English. Also used some references I found to set the tone I wanted.
