Distorted faces

The picture story was produced in Moscow during an online art residence curated by the Kaliningrad Photo Artists’ Union.

Distorted Faces is my attempt to depict the nervous system of a suffering human. A psychological portrait if you like. The starting point in my search for a visual language for the project was the work of the English expressionist artist Francis Bacon (1909-1992). Following him, I distort the features of a human face in order to brighten up the hidden sensation of a person's experience.

You can find here a generalized face of your classmate who didn't manage to get merried by 34. Or a grief-stricken colleague left by her husband after many years of marriage. Or a husband tormented by the feeling of guilt as he has left his wife after years of marriage. Or your best friend, whose father died recently of cancer.
The portraits have been taken through the antiglare glass painted with gouache and vaselin.
"Oh gosh, my soul looks exactly
like on your photos"
