NINE MATTERS
As 2020 marked 100 years of Women’s suffrage, NINE MATTERS serves to explore and celebrate one of the most significant years for women’s rights—
the sixties. The sixties was a time fraught with change, and second wave feminism flourished throughout the United States and beyond. The purpose
of this project is intended to not only honour these women, but to also creatively rethink the way in which history is presented—in return educating and inspiring those who consume and engage with the content.

As this project reflects a mix of both old and new, and the past vs the present,
I felt this contrast had to also be reflected in the chosen medium—my aim was therefore to exploit a contemporary medium in the communication of a rich historical topic. The core communication tool is a typographic exhibition,
which serves to immerse the audience in the past. Creating a space where individuals can go to absorb the information at their own pace, not only immortalises the content by creating a permanent space of celebration and learning, but also changes the way in which we traditionally learn—in return creating a very enjoyable, memorable user experience. Users can then collect a poster foldout at each station of the exhibition. The ability to fold in a novelty manner allows the poster to be compact and user friendly when navigating throughout the exhibition space, although when unfolded, each poster serves to reflect a sense of strength and boldness, with each story unravelling. This project was submitted to the ISTD Student Assessment Scheme 2020, from which I was awarded ISTD membership.
