Magazines

I researched magazines as inspiration for the layout of my fmp photo book. I wanted to look at how they display there pictures in terms of size and page layout. As they are magazines they are produced in a portrait format, I want to see how they place the images and make them work on a page.

- Cereal

Design:

- Minimalistic

- Modern

- Monochrome

- Calm aesthetic

- Structured

Cereal is a travel and lifestyle magazine that shows locations at a minimalistic perspective. They also have a minimalist layout with grey tones throughout the publication. For the cover and the inside of the book they use a modern font to go with the abstract images within the magazine. I am interested in how they use the blank space on the page to frame the photographs and create a pause in the sequence.
- Architects' Journal

- Busy compositions

- A lot of text (to inform the viewer)

- Full bleed

- Structured

- Pure architecture

I looked at Architects' Journal magazine to look at the layout. It is an architecture magazine that shows urban landscapes and built environment. They deal with quite busy compositions that work with a full bleed as it highlights the details within the photographs. They put text and a title next to some of the picture to give them context. I am also interested in how the use the negative space in the pictures especially on the covers and insert text without ruining it.
