This book was written by Paul Wennersberg-løvholen and was illustrated based on his concept drawings of the main character Captain Doodle, and his magical farting unicorn Sparkles.

The creative brief for the illustration was that Captain Doodle is a book pirate, who tears his way into a books, looking for a story, but, as this book is blank, he has to make his own up.

The book is intended to inspire children to make up their own stories and explore the wilds of their imaginations. The illustrations are simple, and rough around the edges, with messy colouring and writing for this reason.

I found the creative process really enjoyable, I added narrative and detail to the pictures so there are things to see throughout that you may miss first time around, such as the parrots, they are not mentioned in the story but feature on most pages as sidekicks to Captain Doodle, eternally on the quest for cake.

Paul and I bounced ideas off one another throughout as the illustrations progressed and altered or changed them as needed. I was very happy to work with Paul on this and edit the illustrations' as I respect that Captain Doodle is his brain child. I just helped him bring him to life.
