Frustration
Personally I've never had much of a problem with flat packed furniture assembly. There does however seem to be a number of people out there for whom the prospect causes anxiety and it is to them I dedicate this piece, commemorating the fact that "if something can go wrong..", particularly if you happen to be an inexperienced assembly robot falling victim to a number of misfortunes at once.
There were a few opportunities and options for putting this poor character through its paces, and they whittled and evolved into probably the silliest, most loaded narrative piece to date. It's construction is again, as with the dating robots, built at its base from two cubes. This simplicity of moulding such a primitive topology has become my favourite way of improvising such characters.
As for the situation, even if we're okay with flat pack assembly we can all feel a little sympathy.. right?
Given the overall arc for my portfolio, as a forum for practising hard surface modelling, the need for a mix of hardware was a welcome joy. Of particular fun was the nonsensical, seemingly irrelevant object, above right. I will also admit to smiling over the cardboard boxes, which were a last minute inclusion - the structural crinkle of the cardboard, the separation edge of the lid, the scotch tape sealing it shut.. those are little touches which I'm quite proud of, at least as far as their spontaneity goes - such improvisations often prove to be quite inspirational details in these projects.
Lord and master over chaos, and maybe even the wrong instructions?
