Color Theory Project #4: PMS Pop Art

Color Theory Project #4: PMS Pop Art
Project Info: For this project we had to make 2 designs of pop art that uses 3 colors from the Pantone Matching System using Photoshop. The content of the artwork and any artistic expression was on us to figure out.
The original image came from Pexels.com, uploaded from a photographer named Collis. Going into this project I didn't really have an idea, but I knew that this model would be interesting to use and integrate into pop art.
Starting out I had to get the model isolated from the background, I used the pen tool to cut him out. After getting the model cut out from the BG I used photoshop filters to help get that simplification effect and also the pop art effect. I used posterization and the halftone pattern filters to achieve this effect.
Getting started I used the shape tool and made a rectangle, to get the current shape of the rectangle I decided to use "Liquifiy" in Photoshop. I was going for something unique and something that would pop out, I then put in the polka dot texture and fixed up the colors to fit within the project specifications. Next I wanted a flashy background that wouldn't take too much focus but would still make the model pop out, I decided that the green and orange worked well with each other. After that I decided that there wasn't enough purple being used in the design so I cut the shirt colors in half and made one side purple to balance it out. I did a rough outline of his hair and made it green with a black stroke effect. After that I did the same thing I did to make the shape on the right side of his face and added a zig-zag texture to it. I started adding finer details like the polka dots in the hair and halftones on the shirt and BG. The final addition to the image was the lips, I wanted to add them because of how they were used in other Pop art works.
After finishing up all of the previous steps, I did some more editing to finalize the artwork. I added the pop art effect to the lips and colored them accordingly. I wanted something that was unique but still sort of used the elements of pop art. I also figured the background could use more so I added the triangles with the pop art effect as well and I think they fit the artwork well. I did more touch ups and added stroke effects and drop shadows to add to the pop art effect. Here is the final project with the secondary set of colors after. I hope you all enjoyed.
