In this brief, I was required to design communicative posters on one of South Africa’s most starving social-economic issues that we face in our everyday lives; one that spoke to me the most, and with that, I chose to speak on South Africa’s depreciated education systems.

This is from the fact that too many schools in South Africa have teachers who barely know the work that they are teaching, teachers that do not show up to classes, teachers who give free gate passes to students just so that they can see the end of the day and teachers who are misleading students in their teachings because they are being forced to teach on subject’s that are way beyond their qualifications. All this is happening while the government does nothing about it, and in the end, it is the students who suffer; students who will grow up and be a part of our society.

So, I have designed my typographic and illustrative posters that compliment my topic statement:

Typographic Poster

When designing this poster many ideas came to mind. However, theme of graded papers and work assignments is what eventually stuck. Thus, the idea of a math equation came into mind; the answer to this equation is true to the effectiveness of the types of teachers targeted, the competence of the government when it comes to this large issue, and what they bring to our society.

It is the students that suffer the most from this, students who then become members of the South African society. They are left with little to no tools to truly make an appreciating impact in our economy. This is a rippling effect in South African society and becomes a national illness where, if not treated accordingly, there will be no one left to cure it.

Too many time times do we, those privileged enough to have proper education, become ignorant, forget and remain in our own blissful bubbles. Too many times do we turn the other way. It is time that we acknowledge this problem in South Africa, for it is the first step to finding a solution where we can claim our victory as a nation.

In the end, this problem affects your everyday life as well.
