Silkscreen Projects 2017-2019

Assorted Screen Printing Projects
Silkscreen prints and experiments made during my undergraduate studies at SUNY New Paltz.
"It Was Never a Choice" 2018- First attempt silkscreening on textiles. These three pieces have prints on the front and the back of two transparent sheets of fabric.
"Scheduled Programing" 2019- Five color screen print. Made for a print exchange with printmaking students at the University of Colorado at Boulder. The theme for this print exchange was "They Speak to Me"- and I decided to interpret that through the lens of consumerism. How Through narratives pushed in advertising, tv, radio, and other programming an idea of a "right" and "wrong" way of thinking, acting, or interpreting is often pushed. When often times, I find myself in between two radical ways of thinking or approaching things.
"Ladylike" 2019- CMYK silkscreen print. For this print I was thinking a lot about how so many musical artists objectify woman in the lyrics of so many songs and how commonplace language degrading females has become in music. So much of the music that I was listening to at an impressionable age was very misogynistic and I often think about how that shaped me as a teen, and now as an adult. This particular print was inspired by language in one of my favorite songs from the mid 2000's- Tpain's classic song "Buy U a Drank"
Wow!!! (2019)- Thinking again about gendered language and the connotations between words and phrases we would generally attribute as masculine or phallic (You Have Balls), versus those as feminine or yonic (You are a Pussy.) Here we see the words associated with biologically female anatomy intends the recipient to feel weak and degraded, whereas the biologically male anatomy associated phrase aims to encourage and uplift the bravery of the recipient.
2019-Embossments created by running wet paper and Barbie Dolls through a Printing press. The embossed images highlight the dramatic proportions of the dolls.
Experiment in Laser cutting- 2019- For these pieces I wanted to experiement with using the laser-cutter to create these silhouettes. Made out of plexiglass these silhouettes were used as plates to use for monotype printing, as well as used to screen print on and hang as art objects. This was good preparation for my thesis show which further explored this material and process.
