#THE22000

In December of 2019, The UK based organisation Centrepoint which tackles homelessness, launched a campaign to create awareness of the rapidly growing numbers of young adults that had found themselves on the streets. The number being at least 22000 new cases was an alarming figure and a conversation that was being overshadowed by the current politics of UK at the time.

The campaign involved artists/ graffiti artists/ street artists interpreting a dialogue from a member of this young homeless community, Centrepoint had coordinated a lot of interviews with quite a selection provided to the artists.
With this interpretation the artist would create a painted piece/ wall within London, also incorporating a given silhouette and stencilled dialogue that again communicates the journey of a young homeless.

Initial concepts
After much thought and rough doodles to try and figure out how I wanted to approach this, one word that stuck in my mind was "isolated". A lot of the testimonies mentioned feeling separated and overlooked by general society, although they were right there in the middle of the street like everyone else, it felt as if the public would look right through them.
From this notion of isolation, I decided upon an idea of a character that was larger than life that occupies most of the wall and is alone on what seems to be a small bit of concrete.
