Routes: A Typographic Essay on Mental Exhaustion

Routes: A typographic Essay on Mental Exhaustion
For this project, we were to assemble 20+ black & white photographs on a subject that contains real letters, words or numbers. These subjects could be street signs, bus signs, doors, building numbers, manhole covers, and the photographs were to include a narrative to supplement the typography. When paired together, type and photo are two of the most potent forms of communication and design. so I used the photos to tell my story on mental exhaustion. When arranging the composition I thought about the relationship between the two and how they can be positioned to enhance/integrate with the message/communication. I was influenced by poetry and wrote this in a similar style.

This typographic essay is meant to serve as a form of mindful meditation in hopes to place you on a path away from mental exhaustion. For me, running is a form of mindfulness and self care but can sometime feel a challenge when my mind is overwhelmed. There are a variety of techniques that you may use to exercise your mind to overcome the struggles of a crowded head space.
