ATALA lingerie fashion collection - ILLUSTRATIONS

CONCEPT / STORY

The title “ATALA” of this lingerie collection is the name I gave to my character and the name of a specific type of butterfly, which can be found in Southeast Florida, Cuba, and Caribbean Islands. This little creature was the main source of inspiration for this collection for more than one reasons.      

               

Firstly, it inspired the colors: it is black, with blue accents and a little bit of orange. The collection is mainly black and blue, and instead of orange I chose gold, to emphasis the preciousness of the creature. Secondly, this butterfly is near extinction. And because of that I chose to have a sustainable approach for this collection.  This is why I decided that to make my own fabrics from black laces, combining different types, different patterns and creating a collage that will be cut after. Thirdly, it is about what the butterfly symbolize in association with a woman`s presence. A butterfly, as a woman, are seen fragile, sensible, delicate creatures. But no one takes into consideration what a great power and strength they need to survive. Even more than that, they need to camouflage, to deceive the predators and to show them that they are stronger, or in some cases, that they are something else. These butterflies survive because they adapted to their environment. These are qualities that can be found in women as well, and in some cases they are even seen as defects. 

This is the mood and the ideology that this collection tries to emphasis: being strong, confident, but delicate and precious at the same time.
