TACTILE TRAIL: A series of communicative wovens inclusive of the visually impaired

The project is influenced by an experience of affiliation with a close companion who is blind. An intriguing question asked by her, “How does the colour blue look like?” was the starting point for inquisitive research into this subject.
Textiles have strong characteristics of texture, dimension and feel that can endow an experience to the user. The project aims to create textiles that hold the sense of touch as an important element, contributing to inclusive design. Woven textiles since historical times to the current time of innovative technology possess substantial potential in introducing a tangible environment. The project examines traditional and modern techniques of the craft of weaving to obtain explorations which are tested by a group of blind people for possible new insights.

And the world seems to be a better place, beyond the cluster of barriers.
