Aloha Hawaii Icon Set

Aloha Hawaii Icon Set
The idea I wanted to create was 12 Hawaii themed icons. I wanted it to be simple yet a bubbly friendly look that reminded me of Hawaii. I have visited Hawaii twice in my life and both times have been in the past 2 years. I wanted the 12 icons to be made from the things that make Hawaii different from any other place. I wanted the icons to be to be consistent in style and color and learning how to make them have consistency was a challenge but I turned it into my own style that is unique. The icons needed to be colorful in a tropical color scheme and those colors needed to be incorporated in each individual icon to make it a full icon set.

Sketching Process
Before I started sketching, I thought of different Hawaii features that I would be incorporating in my 12 icons. I looked up ideas of the photos I took in Hawaii to see different possible ideas. After I decided on those 12, I took my sketch book and started sketching out roughly the different icons.
After sketching out all of my icons I decided to sketch them more to find the exact design I wanted.
The sketching process helped me find the exact design for each icon I wanted. I sketched through a lot of variations of each of the icons to explore but it helped me narrow it down to the final icons.
Drafting Process
Taking the sketches and turning them into digital designs. I used the references of my sketches to make my draft. I wanted to try and find the unique design while remaining fluent and consistent while doing it. I decided to add a face on the icons and that came after making all of them.
After sharing my first round of my draft, I received great feedback from my peers. The big thing I received from the feedback was spacing with my shapes, especially with the turtle. I took their feedback and made some tweaks and changes to make them better.
I continued to find different things I could use to make the icons better and make them stand out more. I needed to make it look more professional and consistent with spacing and alignment.
I tried something different with the turtle but I was still having a hard to spacing it correctly to make it look better. I worked on the turtle to find the best product of it.
I found a way to make my icons stand out more. I used a darker stoke around the shapes. It made it pop more and it looked way better than before. I just was still stuck on the way they looked and to make them pop a little bit more. So I took my thoughts back to the sketch book......
I sketched out the eyes and what I wanted it to look like on the icons. I still had time to change them because I still had to make the other 6 icons. I wasn't sure if I wanted to keep the mouth or not. My mentor said that the mouths on the draft look too small and it wasn't a clear visual on the icons. I decided to take them off and just do the eyes.
Final Design
The final product is here. This is the Aloha Hawaii Icon set. It took a journey to find the unique final design. I was able to achieve my objective of creating 12 Hawaii themed icons. I wanted it to be simple yet a bubbly friendly look that reminded people of Hawaii. I kept the colors, spacing, and the bubbly look consistent through the designing process. Each of the icons themselves have the ability to be singled out of the set but they all come together to make it a beautiful icon set. This process was a learning experience and I hope to continue the process for the future to help me succeed.
