I began developing this project in the last quarter of 2019. Prior to that time, I wrote "The Hungry Man (2015)." I wanted my next book--this book--to possess things that people liked about "The Hungry Man" and improvements in those they didn't like. As a result, I decided that this book had to 1) be longer, 2) be something other than horror, 3) have no deaths and 4) have likable characters. I didn't have much of a story in mind at first, but I did have a title--Faster Reacting Toys. The title wasn't set in stone. I would have changed it if the story I ultimately wrote required such a action. In the end, I produced a sci-fi story whose characters and plot were somewhat inspired by the people I met and events I experienced while living in Washington's King County. The initial draft took about six months. Revisions took about another two months. I published the book in August 2020. Unlike "The Hungry Man," I chose not to submit "Faster Reacting Toys" to a literary magazine or distribute it via KDP Select. Below is a video containing excerpts of the first nine chapters.
