This ongoing series of extemporaneous, rule-based drawings using only repeated lines, evolved as a way to engage both my propensity towards repetitive, obsessive mark making and my desire to give up a degree of control while focusing on the ritualized ACT of drawing. These drawings use repetition and accumulation of line as a means connecting to both the passage of time and the processes of memory formation. The fabric-like structures that emerge mirror the way a series of minutes or seconds coalesce in our minds into one unified 'moment' or memory.
Each drawing is made over a finite amount of time in accordance with a set of rules. No thought or planning is given to composition prior to the start of the drawing, all decisions are made in the moments of making.

THE RULES
starting time is recorded (a clock or timer is visible for each drawing)
using only ink, a single line is drawn, each subsequent line is drawn in response to the most recently drawn line
lines of a given drawing may touch, but never intersect or cross another line.
lines may be ‘broken’ or end at any point
lines are drawn in roughly same direction ex: left-to-right, top-to-bottom (so far all drawings have been made working only from left to right and from top-to-bottom
a continued effort is made to keep the drawing contained within a square or rectangle (so that the drawn area’s outermost limits are equidistant from the paper’s edge) no guidlines or sketches will be used
no rulers will be used
the drawing ends whenever there is hesitation or drawing ceases for more than 30 seconds
the end time or total number of minutes is recorded
any lingering thought or words that occur as the drawing’ progresses may  be recorded
