Herbarium and Five Senses

Project: Book design

The book design finds inspiration in the ancient Herbariums such as Matiolli's Herbarium from 1562 printed in Prague.

This inspiration can be found particularly in the typeface of the titles. As long as it does not have the ambition of recreation the ancient herbariums it uses other contemporary graphic design elements.

The actual information about the herbs is accompanied with the excerpts from a book written by a famous czech poet František Halas.

Emphasis is put on materials while the aim of the book is to connect herbs with human senses.
