Fierce Women WoW Cards
Fierce women is a card game that familiarizes its players with women’s contributions to society in the fields of culture, politics, science, feminism, human rights, and art. As part of the Women on Women (WOW) project with the aim of increasing the visibility of inspiring women the first extension of the game included 30 new cards of fierce women from Ireland, Slovenia, Northern Macedonia and Croatia. I am happy that my illustrations of Zofka Kveder and Dragojla Jarnević have been selected for this limited edition expansion deck. In each portrait a woman is depicted with symbols of her work and achievements.
My propositions for deck expansion included Dragojla Jarnević, Edita Schubert and Zofka Kveder.
Dragojla Jarnević was a teacher, writer, governess and mountaineer. She was a member of the Croatian Pedagogical and Literary Association who was active in the Illyrian movement. She defied traditional women's roles and her Diary, written for 41 years, is considered the most intimate self-portrait of modern Croatian literature.
Zofka Kveder was a writer, journalist, socialist and feminist, one of the first advocates for women's emancipation in the Slavic region. In her first book, The Mystery of a Woman, she wrote about women's suffering, and in the first edition of Ženski svijet (Women's world), magazine she founded in 1917, she demanded the right to vote for women.
Edita Schubert was a Croatian painter who holds a key place in Croatian art of the 20th century. Her artistic activity have been marked by constant research into various art media, which have resulted in the inventions of a new artistic language.
