video at end.
What motivates me? The ability to deconstruct a concept/brief/image/idea/trope into its bare skeleton. Inspect all the individual bits, keep what works, discard which does not. rebuild this pieces as a new thing, that may even run faster than the original.

this is the philosophy that ibring to everything i do, my design stuff, my art, my writing. its a process that allows me to understand things better.

i was the kind of kid to smash open a tamagotchi to see if i could rebuild it into a digimon. I think the concept of breaking something down understand how its built is something locked up away, its good to let that child out sometimes ken.
so this is my kit. well my full home kit. i sometimes collage on the bus to pass the time (3 hours a day on bus! ) the bare essentuals you need is a scalpel and a cutting mat.
everywhere you go collect stuff. i have a box under my bed that is full of random magizines, newspapers, flyers, posters, stuff of the internet, sketches, ideas, weird biits of texture, leftovers from previous projects. make a collection of these to rummage through when getting ready to make stuff. you might find something you forgot you had!
theres is so much free print about these days, most just goes to pulp. you might as well take what you can find. my collages are made almost entirely of random bits of print ive found on the streets.
this is the cut part of cut n paste
get used to this. big piles of cut out 'bits'
feel relaxed to layer, sample, remix and damn right steal to get to this point, the actual build.
my philisophy is have structure and an overall idea, but generally let the chips lay where they fall. the collages start to assemble themselfs and eventually you are just a conduit for the process.
this is the 'paste' part of cut n paste.
for ages ive had this idea tumble about my head. i want to show people the process of how i make my mixed media collages. To show people how easy it is to do something i love. hopefully you reading this may feel inspired to try your hand at this. its one of those things that are so fun, you end up doing them automatically without question.

this is not the biggest collage ive ever made, but it is defo the most complex. its A3 btw.
this was the first time ive ever manipulated a collage in photoshop. something i plan on doing alot more often.
sometimes the best option really is just to take a knife to it.
making a collage from a collage.
i made many variations in photoshop, then printed out copies. i did some experiments with these.
from day dream idea, to finished photograph.
packaging?
try to learn something new everyday. see your designs in new ways.
now this is something ive been meaning to do for ages. print C M Y K layers on seperate sheets of tracing paper. then layer them on top of eachother to see the colour image emerge.
this is definatly something i wish to experiement with further.
so enough of these photographs. Lets get to the video!

this video is basically cut n paste the movie. hope you enjoy it as much as i enjoyed making it. :)
